Dealing with Spammers
Dealing with Spammers
Hi Colin, the steps you have taken regarding the spammers are appreciated, I was getting wary of opening anything on the forum from unknown posters in case it was malware so I'm pleased with your response, it should make it a safer place for everyone.

Re: Dealing with Spammers
Thanks, Sarge.
In many ways, we were worried about taking the draconian action as we didn't want to upset people, especially without warning. However, given that none of the ones that we have deleted have revisited the forum since they registered, in many ways, it's similar to a simple "clean up" of inactive users, but given that one of the guys that posted the porn had sat there in the background for a while, we decided to do a no-warning delete.
We've taken a risk with leaving those that have visited the site active, however, as they've not posted anything "dodgy" it's a reasonable risk. However, if they've still not posted anything by the end of this month, they'll be going, too, as, amongst other things, we want the forum to be a place for active & interesting chats & dialogue so only having active members on teh forum makes sense.
Cheers for your support
Colin

No problem with the new rules. I really missed the old forum after our went offline and I don't want similar problems again.

Re: Dealing with Spammers
OK, so all "Members" that have never posted have now been deactivated on the way to being deleted.
There are two new registrations that I'm not fully happy with email addresses, but am going to approve & watch carefully as sometimes we pick email addresses for good reason...
