WWI colours

This is where you can talk about anything else... at least that's vaguely related to Armourfast kits!

WWI colours

Post by Hardcastlehotspur » Sun Feb 11, 2018 4:26 pm

Just about to commence building some WWI tanks and figures.
Anyone out there able to recommend the correct Vallejo paint for WWI German Infantry?
(Here's hoping that Armourfast get into WWI).

Not sure about the vallejo colour but from what I've seen the field grey was similar to WW2 uniform, maybe a bit lighter, but I don't get too hung up on exact shades as they would vary a lot anyway with wear n tear, weathering and washing.

Hi, HCH...
Found these when Googling ...
http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/wwi ... ors.31657/
http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=147966
http://www.militarymodelling.com/forums ... p?th=38358

Hope that there's something of use there

Separately, one also needs to ask the question whether the continual reference to WW1 should be classed as Spam???

Cheers
Colin

Many thanks for your advice. Think I'll stick with 70-920 then.
I asked as I thought there was more blue in the colour than green, but as you say, with wear and tear and colour fade......
Thanks again.

Hi guys...
OK, Sarge, I'll let him off :D

HTH - I can't particularly comment on WW1 colours, but each year I visit Normandy & see both re-enactors and museum exhibits of uniforms & what I can say is that very few of them are the same colour as each other... or any painting guides that I've seen  So my view would be to go with your gut feel & if anyone complains, ask them to prove that they're right & you're wrong!

My German paras have an "interesting" scheme... but part of that is to help ID them when we're packing away after a game!

As to AF in WW1... who knows... I guess it would have been a good idea 4 years ago in prep for the various anniversaries... but the main question is how many will sell & whether one likes it or not, Shermans will always outsell Mark 4s or "Little Willies"... which is why many manufacturers have a Tiger in their kits...

Good point regarding will it sell Armourfast-Colin.
Ever thought of listing a few of the ideas AF have got on the drawing board to see which are most popular? Might help with the potential sales.

Hi HCH,
That's a good question... I shall annoy Tracy & Nicholas later in the week & see if I can get a "Heads up"... of course, there will then be a flurry of "oh, why don't you do this first?" "why are you doing that version, why not this one?" "where are my WW1 tanks?" etc

And, of course, this is presuming that Tracy has dusted off a list

Grab the AK WW1 German Uniform set - 3 colours, base, shadow and highlight. Can be brushed on, I really like them. Just don't take the shadow as the base color and the highlight as a straight highlight, mix them with the base color to get the desired shade.
